Golden Sun Overhauls Eamohe in Governors Tops Pacesetter Near Length With Kirkland Up at Suffolk By TEDDY COX SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., June 22. — Mrs. Eben H. Ellison Jr.s Golden Sun, an invader from Delaware Park, bounding along with a spectacular rush in the final eighth of a mile to account for the 0,000 added Governors Handicap before a gathering of 19,682 here this afternoon. The well-turned three-year-old son of Sun Braham — Golden Bolt, by Bolingbroke, who was bred by his owner, was smartly handled by the veteran Arnold Kirkland. who also was an importation especially for the one-mile event. Greenbrier Stables Eamohe, who either set or forced the pace most of the way, gained the place honors, three-quarters in back of the .leader and a neck-in front of the heavy favorite, Stepping Boy, from the Rumstick Lodge Stable. Paul Bongarzones Zolt was fourth in the six-horse field. Completing the field was Mr. Marcey and Challefont. As the field paraded, Chal-lefont appeared to be obviously sore, and on one occasion he bobbled. Marshall Wilder, however, warmed him up extensively and he seemed okay as they entered the starting gate. Golden Sun paid .20 and raced the mile in 1:38%. The colt had won his last two races under allowance conditions at Delaware Park to earn- the chance at the more lucrative Governors Handicap. It was his third victory in six tries this season. Anthony J. Ryans Big Paddy, who was regarded as the heavy early choice, was a late declaration. Steward William "Bunny" Almy reported that the colt suffered a case of colic this morning and when it was necessary for the veterinarians to administer treatment he became what amounted to an automatic scratch. Betty Lane Cherry, who holds the pulchritude title, "Miss United States," was the honored guest, and presented jockey Kirkland with a trophy after the race. A crowd of 19,682 was on hand, many of whom dashed for a close-up shot at the beauty when announcer Ralph "Babe" Ru-benstein called attention to her presence. The field started just before the finish line and first out of the gate was Eamohe, with Mr. Marcey, Challefont and Zolt next in line.
