While 20,467 screamed the place down, Hal Price Head-leys Attica and Willie Boland shot out of the pack in the last sixteenth, and the re-" suit was so close Boland remained in the saddle, ready to enter the chalked semicircle reserved for winners, until the result was flashed. The Princess had won by a nose, according to the incontrovertible camera. Even then her backers "were not eligible ta collect the .20 for , as the stewards flashed an "inquiry." In the end, the glorious cripple collected the 8,650, or a net of 8,150, for Mrs. Markey. So intent was the crowd on the dramatic struggle between the first two, the circumstance Howell Jacksons Nasrinawas third at a length and one-half went almost unnoticed. It was a similar distance back to the gray Manotick, fourth in a classy field of 1"3 assembled for this preview of next weeks Delaware Handicap, worlds richest filly and mare race. Princess Turia carried her 116 pounds the distance in a moderate 1:45 in fast footing, time two and four-fifths seconds off the record. She spotted the runner-up four pounds and carried levels with Nas-rina. It was the second straight New Castle for Calumet, whose retired Miz Clementine won a year ago. To Stay for Delaware In the winners enclosure, where Mrs. F. Michael Donohue Jr. . presented him the trophy, trainer Jones said both Princess Turia and Amoret would reappear for the climactic Delaware. The breathless Willie Hartack commented. "She had to run awful hard. It took all she had." Bill Boland slipped disappointedly from Attica to say "I thought we would make it, but the distance ran out on us. She really ran big." Paul Bailey also commented upon how largely Nasrina ran, adding an opinion, "she should improve." Brooks, on White Orchid, could only say the obvious: "She tired." The New Castle was the feature of a dual stakes bill, and earlier in the afternoon the milling crowd, dressed in various stages of decolette, saw a renewal of the Dover, which also brought success for Hartack and a favorite, in this instance Bolero U. Miss Elizabeth Haskell Fleitas presented the trophy in that one. The New Castle was good sport from the drop of the flag, where Gay Warbler, Jane Gess and White Orchid .were quickest to get into gear. At the same time, Attica was allowed to drop back, along with Little Pache, and Princess Turia maintained a strategic position midway the pack. Going around the clubhouse turn, Gay Warbler opened up two lengths as she disposed of Jane Gess, but Princess Turia, Manotick and Nasrina were following her like a shadow, all tracking her confident she would -stop and waiting a more propitious time to strike. At the end of the backstretch, they went at Gay Warbler with a surge she could not deny. Mano-ticks bid was short lived, but Nasrina hung on, while entering the stretch Princess Turia went to the front. She was leading by two coming to the final furlong, Hartack nursing her along. About midway the field on the outside there was Attica, and she was only just beginning to run, Boland delaying his move to deep stretch. It was a suspenseful thing to watch. Hartack was alert to the danger and was busy as he ever has been, even winning the Derby inches. But on and on came Attica. She just missed. LOVEMAN — Owner of Maraja, who accounted for Saturdays fifth race at Arlington Park for his first success since the Florida season. Princess Turia Captures New Castle by Nose Continued from Page Fifty-Six the favorite players in the five and one-half of the Dover, but his success was not executed in the convincing manner of a legitimate odds-on chance. He was only a diminishing neck before Mrs. S. Helene Sadaccas swiftly closing A -Dragon Killer at the end, where the Elkcam Stables Christiana Stakes winner, Hubcap, was third, another length away. Ambitwixt finished fourth in a field of six of the liveliest two-year-old developments of the first half of the season. Selena Kirksdats successful son of Bolero and Big Lu, bred by Clarence Hard-wick of Sickles Image fame, earned 0,- 250 of a gross purse of 3,750. This was 0,025 less fees to nominate and start. He returned .40 in the tote. The show pool was minus ,098.30. He was one of the topweights under 125 pounds, conceding nine to A Dragon Killer, and Hartack sent him over the distance in 1:05 in the glib going. This statistic was three-fifths Qf f the track mark shared by Pavot and Northern Star. The early phases of the race developed a speed duel between Hubcap and Bolero U., with the former having a head or so the better of it, while they raced lengths before the others in the dash to and around the turn. Straightening for the run home, Bolero TJ. got the better of Hubcap without sapping too much of his resources. But trouble loomed behind him as A Dragon Killer and jockey Vernon Bush went to work.
