One of the top juveniles last season when she earned over 00,000, the daughter of Roman — Mablen carried top weight of 122 pounds in the Cleopatra. Her dam, Mablen, was purchased from William duPont by Kentmere Farm some some years years ago ago and and some some years years ago ago and and after the mare was covered by Roman in 1954, she was leased to Matt Winn Williamson for the season and thus he is listed as the breeder of this brilliant filly. Kentmere is including in its Saratoga consignment this season a chestnuts colt who is a half-brother to Romanita. This individual is by the defunct Australian-bred Beau Gem and oddly enough, Romanias latest victory was under the reins of an Australian rider, Alan Charles Burton. Beau Gem was a scin of Helios out of French" Gem, she by Beau Fils. Thus this sire was a half-brother to the successful Royal Gem II., who has sired such stakes Avinners as Royal Bay Gem, Dark Star, Royal Fan and others. Mablen, who is by Blenheim II. from the Man o* War matron, Golden Manda, only raced once at two and has had four starters, all of them winners which, of course, includes the stakes winning Romanita. This is the family of Manyunk who chalked up numerous stakes winning efforts while racing on the. West Coast. Mrs. C. McGhee Baxter is among the Virginia consignors who will sell at Saratoga with the yearlings coming from her Barracks Farm near Charlottesville. While these youngsters, are being readied for Fasig-Tipton Companys vendue at the Spa during the week of August 12-16, consignment prospects appear very promising for next years sale when one looks over the 1957 foal list from the Barracks Farm. Five mares foaled colts in this country and the two mares in England produced fillies. This year there will be two yearlings by Never Say Die consigned by Virginia breeders Blue Ridge Farm and Mrs. John OFallon HI. Mrs. Baxter dees not have a yearling by this sire but her Hyperion matron, Pin Stripe, dropped a chestnut colt by him and .the mare was returned to Polynesian. To the cover of Phalanx, Barracks Farms Kuklakee by Blue Swords produced a bay colt and she was bred back to Alerted. The Bull Dog matron, Blues , -4 Singer, was among the first group of mares bred to the imported Kingsway last .year- at Kentmere Farm and this mare had a bay colt this season and was returned to Saratoga. An imported mare, Great Haste by Precipitation dropped a brown colt by Your Host and was bred to the Italian champion, Daumier. The final foal in this "country was a bay coll by the imported Our Love out of Wtr Aster, . she by War Relic and the mare was bred back to the same sire. — In England the Fair Trial -mare, Golden Flower had a chestnut filly by Darius and was returned to him while Gainsborough Lady, a daughter of Donatello n., had a bay filly by the American-bred Black Tar-quin and this mare was sent to Sheshoon Stud where she was bred to the syndicated Palestine. Furthering her interests abroad, Mrs. Baxter had purchased a share in Tudor Minstrel, a son of Owen Tudor — Sansonnet. by Sansovino. Tudor Minster was unbeaten as a two-year-bid and his outings as a three-year-old included victories in the 2,000 Guineas, St. James Palace Stakes and he was second to Migoli sire of this years Belmont winner, Gallant Man and fourth in the Derby. AAA Bertram N. Linders Hickory Hill Farm has continued to move ahead with its breeding operations and this year Its yearling group is made up of two filles and two colts. A brown filly by War Admiral out of Grand League is a three parts sister to the stakes winners Busher, Mr. Busher and Striking. Grand League, who died recently after prematurely foaling a colt by Sun Again, was -an unraced half-sister to the dam of Jet Action. The chestnut filly J y Knockdown out of Imprint is a half-sister to the winners Hill Princess and Trace and is out of a half-sister to the good winner, Influence, and to Imagem, winner of -the Benjamin Franklin Handicap. Imprint, a winner by War Relic out of In The Purple, is a granddaughter of the great mare Black Helen. Imprint dropped a colt foal this year by Norseman and has .been, bred back to Your Host. Current plans are to breed her to Traffic Judge next year as Linder is a member of the syndicate who purchased this horse from the Clifford Mooers Estate. The brown colt by Double Jay— Camp Sortie, is a big strapping colt. His dam was the winner of eight races and she placed in stakes. She is also a half-sister to the stakes winner Camp Verde and to four other winners. The brown cout by Brookf ield out of the Heliopolis matron, Imahoney. He is a full brother to the good allowance winner Inflame, and a half-brother to the winner Iforu who are Imahoneys only other foals to reach the- track to date.
