Hawthorne Cup Again To Be 00,000 Added Mile and Quarter Handicap Will Be Run Closing Day, October 11 The Hawthorne Gold Cup, one of the nations top thoroughbred racing fixtures, again will carry the endowment of 00.-000 in added mcney. Robert F. Carey, managing director of Hawthorne Race Course, announced. The 1 1-4 miles race will be run October 11, final day of Hawthornes 35-day fall session, which opens September 2. The complete stakes and handicap program for the 68-year-old track will be released later. Carey said, but will approximate the 1957 schedule. Nominations for the Hawthorne Gold Cup, the meetings top stakes race, will close Saturday. July 5. Last year the race had a gross value of 26,550. with 5.-950 going to the winner.
