Explanation of Optional Claiming Races An OPTIONAL CLAIMING race is ene restricted lo borses running or having previously rnn for a stated ciainiins price, and be term OPTIONAL CLAIMING means fust what the .name implies, the owner having the option ot entering hU horse for a price eligible to be claimed I or oot entering his horse for a price not eligible to be claimed. It an owner does not -rant to enter his horse to be claimed his horse must meet the "optional conditions" .set down by the racing secretary In order to , be eligible to compete- These conditions appear In the past performances preceding each race. All horses who race in optional ciaimers. but are not entered to be claimed, must have raced at some timelier a specified claiming price to obtain a classification, and ther must again race tor a claiming .price if the owner wishes to reclassify bis horse-in a lower category. Also, winners of optional claiming -races when entered NOT eligible to be claimed, can not be eligible for the same class ol face UNLESS entered eligible to be claimed.
