National Guard, Firemen To Stage Annual Shows Demonstrations to Take Place At Delaware Park on May 17-18 WHiMTNGTON, Del., May 1. — For the fourth straight year, the DelawareNa-tional Guard and the New Castle County Volunteer Firemens Association will stage their annual mammoth shows with demonstrations and displays at Delaware Park with the public — children included — invited to attend at no charge. The guards program will highlight Armed. Forces Day, Saturday. May 17. The firemens field day events will be held Sunday, May la. The guards display, to be open from noon to 4 pjn.. will be on the track-s large parking area A, entered via route -2 Robert Kirkwood Highway. The exhibit will include all types of modern guns, vehicles, communications equipment, etc.,- assembled from various TJ. S. Army posts and the Delaware National Guard. Maj. Gen. Joseph J. Scannell, State. Adjutant General, said the guard is goings all out to arrange for the most comprehensive displays and demonstrations ever offered in the state. . Demonstrations and maneuvers will be staged in the spacious Delaware Park infield from 2 to 3 pjn., with the public watching from the stands. Activities will include a mock battle involving tank-infantry _ teams, jet airplanes in close defense, and simulated air defense. Units from the 197th Automatic Weapons Battalion, the 736th Gun. Battalion, and elements of the Delaware- Air National Guard will, participate. The show will be directed ari3. announced over the public address system by Lt. Col. Austin C. Chidester Jr., operations officer, 261st Brigade, and field representative of Delaware Safety Council. "This show portrays our nations power for peace* program," he said, "and we urge the public to attend. Everyone, children included, should, enjoy it." , Firemens Field Day. to which the 20 companies of the New Castle County Volunteer Firemens Association have been invited to compete for various prizes, includes morning and. afternoon, programs from 9 a.m. to about 4 pjn.
