Heavy Traffic on Downs Fast Strip Trotsek Charges Timed in Trials Bolero U., Kelly Go Half Mile in :48%; Calumet Youngsters Also on Track. CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky.. May 1.— The first fast track of the meeting during training hours this morning found horsemen swarming to the strip with charges to get in much-needed training moves that produced a total of 156 separate time trials. Harry Trotsek displayed a bit of Hasty House Farms strength by-sending their English importation Kelly, and their recent acquisition, Bolero U.. through sizzling half-mile speed trials. Kelly, a three-year-old son of Panorama, leading sprinter sire of the British Isles, and winner of the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster last year, went the 4 furlongs in :48% .which seemed to indicate that his return to the races is rapidly approaching. Bolero U., actually owned by Allie Reuben and-Ike Collins, but who races under the Hasty House silks, was merely breezing while getting his half mile in :48%. The Bolero three -year-old was acquired out of the horses-in-training sale at Hialeah this past winter .for 0,000. He has accounted for the Gulfstream Juvenile, the Jamaica Youthful, the Dover Stakes at Delaware and the Tyro Stakes at Monmouth. Their Chilerin-bred mare, Aysha, was particularly impressive while stepping 6 furlongs in 1:15. in what was termed "handy" fashion, and will be pointed for upcoming distaff events in Chicago. Bumpy RoadSreps 5 Furlongs A pair of last years juveniles demon-stratedJthat they are nearing racing condition with * todays moves as Irving Gushens Bumpy Road displayed high speed while stepping five-eighths in 1:00%. E. P. Metz Dudley Road went 3 furlongs in :35, and both are due to be seen under silks before the end of the Kentucky season. Bumpy Road won last years Lafayette Stakes at Keeneland and placed in Delawares Christiana Stakes/ Calumet. Farm showed off a pair of promising juveniles with trainer Jimmy Jones sending On and On and Toroculk throught a 4-furlong speed trail. The pair went in company while breaking from the starting gate and while on even terms throughout the pair completed the move In :48%. Doug Davis and J. H. Bells Roman Bow. winner of Randall Parks Youthful Stakes and the Livonia Stakes at Detroit, has all his speed while stepping a half mile in :49. A Glitter, Calumet Farms Oaks hopeful, went-through a 5-furlong drill in 1:02, following the decision this morning to keep her in the barn tomorrow and not attempt to win this edition of the Oaks.
