Y., May 29 Seven of the best handicap horses in. training will meet in the famous old Suburban Handicap at Belmont Park this afternoon and it is a field that preserves the best tradition of the prize that had its first running at beautiful Sheepshead Bay, back in 1884, This is the big event for the Decoration Day sport that has been prepared by "Jack" Campbell and the supporting card is a truly notable one. Another special of first importance is the Juvenile Stakes for the two-year-olds and like the handicap it brings out the best in that "age division with eight named to appear under silks. With its seven starters, the Suburban Handicap will carry a net value of 1,965 to the winner and the Juvenile, with its eight starters, carries a net value of ,330 to the winner. CAVALCADE AT HIS BEST. Seldom has been such a notable field named for the Suburban, though the field ia a comparatively small one. Cavalcade, Mrs. Dodge Sloanes champion is the top "weight under 127 pounds, just his scale weight. Since his recent defeat by Head Play, the son of Lancegaye and Hastily has worked exceedingly well for the running and a trial of a mile and a quarter in 2:03 proved his readiness. Since that move he ran an easy mile and a quarter in 2:07 and there is every evidence that he is back to his best form. Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt3 Discovery, which is in receipt of four pounds from Cavalcade, will renew his battles of last year with the champion, and at the weight difference he is sure to be a worthy rival. Like Mrs. Sloanes four-year-old, Discovery has proved his fitness with some smart trials. C. H. Knebelkamps King Saxon, un-, beaten this year and winner of the Pau-monok, Excelsior and Metropolitan Handicaps, promises to be next in importance, and these three would make it a great renewal if there were no other starters. HEAD PLAY DANGEROUS. But there are others, and the most notable is Mrs. Silas B. Masons Head Play, conqueror of Cavalcade in his only start this season. Head Play is under 114 pounds, and the weight arrangement is just the same as in the previous .meeting with Cavalcade. The son of My Play and Red Head has worked exceedingly well since that winning effort, and he i3 fit for the question. Should the track become muddy, which is not expected, it will improve the chances of Head Play considerably. The running of the Juvenile is of prime importance from the fact that it will see the meeting of Coldstream, the best juvenile to be brought on from Kentucky, and White Cockade, the son of Diavolo, which races for Ogden Phipps, and C. V. Whitney is represented in the field by Bright Plumage, a colt of undoubted quality. Every preparation has been made for handling the greatest crowd that ever graced Continued on thirty-sixth page.. Frank Stevens has reported that the luncheon reservations have taxed his capacity, and tables will be placed outside the restaurant enclosure proper to take care of the overflow. The Turf and Field Club will also have its capacity taxed and, altogether, it is assured that this Decoration Day will be one of the most brilliant ever enjoyed by the Westchester Racing Association.
