PRETTY NIGHT VICTORIOUS Accounts for Harvard Handicap, Principal Offering of Wednesdays Program at Rockingham Park. SALEM, N. H.f May 29. Pretty Night, a recent arrival from Belmont Park, carried the silks of T. H. Sohierville to victory in the ,500 added Harvard Handicap, six furr long feature of the mid-week program here today. The field for the feature was reduced to five, when Rough Party and Hardware were withdrawn, with the more lucrative Decoration Day Handicap tomorrow in view. Following the T. H. Someryille filljr across the line came Spixi, the imported son of Macaw which races for .J. U. Gratton. A. G. Vanderbilts Bachelor Dinner, winner of his two previous starts .and favorite in the Harvard was third. Purple Knight led the only remaining starter, C. V. Whitneys. Pan-toufle. The field had no sooner moved into their respective stalls than starter Bob Frerid pulled the - latch. Bachelor Dinner, a particularly rapid beginner, was i first out of the stalls, followed by Pretty Night, and Spixi beat the others awayj Pahtoufle, after leaving in last place, dropped back asthe field sped down the back stretch. The Vahderbilt colt cut out the early running though he -was unable to drew , clear with the Gratton gelding holding, to second place. The eventual winner was racing along ; next and close, to the rail..- Peters made an effort to move up on the inside, but Seabo closed that avenue, forcing Peters to take up and come around on the outside. Bachelor Dinner and Spixi continued their fight for the lead right down to the stretch. Pretty Night was on the outside and. started to move up gradually. At the furlong pole, Spixi had wrested the command from the Vanderbilt colt, but it had cost, an effort, and when Peters brought the Somerville filly up on the outside he had nothing with which to meet the bid. Pretty Night went to the front inside the last sixteenth and drawing into, a length lead was going clear as the finish was reached. Spixi and Bachelor Dinner continued their duel right down to the finish, with a scant half length separating the pair at the close. Purple Knight had played no serious part in the running. The program, was witnessed by another large crowd, with close and sultry weather prevailing.
