! ; NARRAGANSETT STAKES LIST . i Fine Array of Entries Received for Rich Offering of Summer Meeting. Cavalcade, Omaha, Discovery, Azucar, Fair-eno, Mate and Other Stars in 5,000 Narragansett Special. PAWTUCKET, R. I., May 29. Though nominations for Narragansett stake events will continue to pour in. for the rest of the week, the closing date and time being determined by letters postmarked not later than midnight May 27, president Walter E. OHara and racing secretary Pat Horgan are delighted with the generous response ac- corded their offerings for the first summer meeting, as well as for the preliminary closing of New Englands most important race, the Narragansett Special. With its 5,000 added money and the strong probability of a further 5,000 being added in the event of certain horses facing the starter, the Special has attracted the classiest nomination list of the year. Among the signed forms accepted this morning were those of William Woodwards Belair Stud, naming the great son of Gallant Fox, Omaha, winner of the Kentucky Derby and Preakness, and the five-year-old Faireno to compete in this one mile and three-sixteenths race scheduled for August 21. Mrs. Isabel Dodge Sloanes champion of 1934, Cavalcade, winner of the last years Kentucky Derby, American Derby, Detroit Derby and the Arlington Classic, has been nominated by trainer R. A. "Bob" Smith. Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt has nominated his champion four-year-old Discovery, which demonstrated his great liking for this track last Labor Day when he set up a new worlds record over the same distance as called for in the Special. From F. M. Alger, Jr., of Detroit, comes the nomination for the sensational reformed jumped Azucar, which went on to win the Santa Anita Handicap in 1935s record prize of 07,000. F. A. Carreaud is sending back last years winner, Time Supply, another one that has shown a marked liking for this track, as well as his new acquisition War Glory, five-year-old son of Man o War. A. C. Bostwicks grand old stake horse Mate is named to make his first appearance in New England, as is Mrs. Deering Howes four-year-old colt Only One. Of the remainder Mrs. F. J. Hellers Agrarian and the smart Araho pair, Howard and New Deal, are outstanding. But all the returns are not yet in and Pat Horgan has good sound reasons for believing other important nominations are on their way, which will make the Special the most representative handicap of 1935. Stakes for the first meeting have filled even beyond expectations. Many of the champions named for the Special are scheduled for appearance in the Rhode Island Handicap, over one mile and three-sixteenths on July 6. The claiming stakes have proved a real magnet and are filled to overflowing, while the Old Colony, a juvenile event over five furlongs, scheduled for July 4, with ,000 added, has attracted the cream of the two-year-old crop headed by Ogden Phipps crackerjack White Cockade.
