RACING AT CLEVELAND TODAY Thirty-Three Day Meeting Will Be Inaugurated at Bainbridge Park Under Favorable Auspices. CLEVELAND, Ohio, May 29. Another season of racing in the Cleveland area will be inaugurated with the opening tomorrow of a thirty-three day meeting at Bainbridge Park, popular course of the Bainbridge Breeders and Racing Association, of which Joseph. Cattarinich, Thomas McGinty and Homer J. Kline, are the principal executives.. The Bainbridge meeting runs until July 6, and then, according to tentative plans, the scene shifts on July 20 to Thistle Down. The Thistle Down management has made application to the State Racing Commission for a thirty-eight day meeting, running from July 20 to September 2, Labor Day, inclusive. On the eve of the opening at Bainbridge, the outlook is much the same as : in : other of the larger racing centers, where the sport has been enjoying greater prosperity than in several years. The principal stake offering during the thirty-three days of Bain-; bridge racing will be the Ohio Derby, for three-year-olds. It will be reserved, for the final day of the meeting, when it will have its ninth running oyer a distance of nina furlongs. The sum of ,000 will be added, ,and entries will not close until a week before the date of running, thereby assuring a full and representative field. The opening day feature on a card which embraces eight .races will be the Decoration Day Handicap, for svhich a 00 purse has been hung up. It is for three-year-olds and over, and will be decided over six furlongs. A field of eight will start in the feature, and of them Mrs. E. B. Shipps consistent Irenes Bob has been assigned top weight of 115 pounds The other races also bring together well-balanced, if small fields. Post time for the first race has been set at 2:15 oclock. Although it rained some last night, and there still-was a threat of it today, the track itself is in excellent condition, and barring further rain, will be fast for the opening. The forecast is for fair weather and the Bainbridge management is making plans for a huge turnout. The racing officials for the meeting are ! all familiar figures, here. John T. Ireland, R. S. Eddy, Jr., and John A. King will serve in the stewards stand, while Richard A. Leigh, Charles C. Campau and Clifford V. Abbo will call the finishes. Messrs. Leigh and Campau will fill dual roles, the former doubling as racing secretary and the latter as clerk of scales. G. R. Wingfield, starter; Thomas V. Craven and William Snyder, paddock and patrol judges; Dr. S. Gibson, track veterinarian, and Dr. George Green, track physician, complete the official family.
