TIGER JOHN, in close quarters approaching the far turn and forced to cqme to the outside to obtain clear sailing, closed a big gap. GAY CREST was unable to reach the leaders. The latter, reserved within striking distance of the early pace, came stoutly through the stretch run and was catching the winner at every stride at the finish. QUEEN VIC took the lead in the run to the first turn, cut out the running for the first three-quarters and weakened through the stretch. TANNERY closed some ground in the last half mile. BELOW COST was unable to reach the leaders. BRIGHT BIRD was outrun throughout.
