CAMERA SATISFACTORY Sportsmans Electric Device Functions Well in Preliminary Trial. Officials Anticipate one of Best Inaugurals in History of Track J. J. Graddy an Arrival. CICERO, III.. Oct 9. With everything in readiness for Mondays opening of Sportsmans Pari:, officials of the National Jockey Club are hoping for bright skies so as to launch the meeting, which will extend over eighteen days, in successful fashion. With dry weather over the week-end and Monday, the half mile racing strip will be in firm condition and ready as the battle ground for the thoroughbreds during the next three weeks, the final period of racing in Illinois this year. A fast track Monday also would assure a more attractive program than might otherwise be- offered and with the assistance of the weather man the management of Sportsmans Park hopes to stage one of the finest inaugurals in the history of the track. Chief activity today centered about the executive offices, the headquarters of racing officials and in the stable enclosure. As barns were filling up with arrivals from Lincoln Fields and other points, executives and members of the racing department were taking care of numerous last minute details. John Patton, secretary and treasurer and acting head in the absence of E. J. OHare, president, personally presided at a trial this afternoon of the new electric camera to be used for photographing finishes of all close races. Photos will be used to assist the judges in placing the horses. In the jockeys quarters, several more riders checked in and Robert S. Shelley, general manager and racing secretary, stated that the riding colony this year would include more prominent riders than any previous gathering of saddle performers at the Cicero course. J. J. Grady, steward, was the latest of the racing officials to report. He arrived from hi3 home in Lexington. George W. Schilling was expected during the day, coming from California. Entries for Mondays program will be accepted here and also at Lincoln Fields. The draw for post positions will be made under the supervision of Shelley and horsemen at Sportsmans Park, but actual compilation of the program will be at Lincoln Fields, whence the card will be released to the press representatives and others.
