t EPSOM DOWNS TURF NOTES " s s On the recommendation of the track veterinarian. Col. Zac was excused from starting in the third race Friday afternoon. Upon examination it was learned that the horse was coughing and in an unfit condition to race. However, the three-day entry rule was applied by the stewards "on the occasion. Jack Hodgins, trainer of R. B. Georges Hilltop Farm Stables horses, is contemplating a trip to Dallas over the week-end to inspect the band of yearlings and brood mares he has at the farm. He will return Monday to resume charge of the horses he has in training here. Flans for the holding of a public auction next week in the paddock at Epsom Downs are under way and numerous owners have expressed the intention of offering horses on the block. Among them are Frank Seremba, B. Hernandez, W. A. Mikel, A. G. Tarn and others. Discovering that Montmary was not eligible under the conditions governing the fourth race Friday, Mrs. J. E. Farleys representative was automatically withdrawn from the contest, which specified for non-winners since March 1. Montmarys last winning effort was on March 11, B. Hernandez, owner and trainer of one of the most useful stables quartered at Epsom Downs, departed Friday afternoon for New Orleans, where he will spend the week-end with relatives. Mike Lally, who brought in his stable of thoroughbreds from Detroit several days ago, registered the following racers with secretary T. J. Brown Friday morning: Sir Ten, Maystick, John Doe, Rustic Miss, Speed Demon, Polaris and Orthodox. A big shipment of horses are expected over the week-end at Epsom Downs, according to advices received from Midland, Texas, where a meeting comes to an end Saturday afternoon. " John Thorwald, Dallas sportsman and owner of the Skaal Farm, is negotiating for the purchase of Molly Greenock from B. Hernandez. If the deal is consummated Molly Greenock will be retired to the Thorwald farm near Dallas and used as a brood mare. Jockey R. Whitley, a saddle veteran, made his initial appearance of the Epsom Downs meeting in colors when he rode Little Reigh in the sixth race Friday. George Keeton reported the sale of the stallion World Over to P. Stell of Fairmount, Texas, who will retire the horse to his farm to be used for the breeding of polo ponies in the future,
