NOMINATIONS FOR WAGGONER MEMORIAL ARRIVING DAILY ARLINGTON, Texas, Oct. 9. Nominations for the 5,000 added Waggoner Memorial Handicap, which holds the spotlight in the purse distribution for the Texas Jockey Clubs fall meeting of thirty-three racing days, starting October 22 at Arlington Downs, continue to arrive daily and some of . the nations standout handicap horses have been named for the fall feature. Heading the list is A. A. Baronis Top Row, which won the event last year, and E. F. Seagrams J Stand Pat, to which goes the honor of being j the first horse named since trainer Frank Gilpin nominated the Seagram colorbearer !for the Waggoner fixture before the stake was announced. Top Row, always a prime favorite with Arlington Downs patrons, is the Baroni favorite. Claimed by the Nevada sportsman after he won a claiming event in 1934, Top Row ascended the equine hill of fame rapidly and soon became Americas handicap king, winning this honor by virtue of defeating Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilts Discovery twice and then climaxing a big year in winning the 1935 Waggoner Memorial. Nominations for the Waggoner Handicap close on October 15 at midnight. A supplementary clause, however, permits the late entry of. horses for this classic up to and including October 31 and this was inserted by racing secretary Charles J. McLennan in order to accommodate owners whose charges might be late rounding into winter form.
