FEATURE CONTEST DIVIDED Crossbow II. and Whiskolo Score in Class "D" Handicaps. Jockey R. Workman in Limelight at Jamaica Ride Plays Big Part in Triumph of Whiskolo. NEW YORK, N. Y., Oct. 9. In a day of overnight races, and with the sprinters in demand for five of the six offerings, there was a split of the feature, when the Stewart Manor Handicap, a dash of six furlongs for those of class "D," was riin in two divisions. The first half went to Crossbow II. and the second was taken by Whiskolo. The sport was enjoyed by an excellent crowd and while there was a threat of rain in the air conditions were pleasant. The first half of the feature went to Warren Wrights Crossbow II. and the second brought a thrilling finish, with Mrs. Ethel V. Mars Whiskolo, under a powerful ride by Workman for his second victory of the day, winner over Mrs. C. Oliver Isclins Knowing. Arthur J. Sacketts Tabitha took third froni Sunport,. though it took a photograph to..der cide the third horse. Workman played an important part in the victory when he avoided the early pace with the son of Diavolo and made his winning rush in the stretch. Knowing and Tabitha, closely lapped, were the ones to show the way, with Tabitha enjoying the inside berth. Going to the stretch turn Workman brought Whiskolo into the picture on the outside of the leading pair. Reaching the short straight run home, Tabitha came again, but it was only for a few .strides. Knowing was hanging on gamely and Workman had to drive Whiskolo hard to have him safely past the line winner by a length. Sunport made a threatening move going to the stretch turn, but was blocked. He was coming again at the end, and while Knowing had beaten Tabitha by a head for second place that colt was only a nose back of the Victorian filly. ARCAROS GOOD RIDE. Crossbow II. was admirably ridden by Ar-caro to take the first half of the special feature of the day when he led home Dewey Benthams Abner which in turn barely beat the Brookmeade Stables Clocks, which cut out all the running. A length and a half back of these was A. C. Bostwlcks Upside Down. Six started and they left in the same stride with Clocks at once taking command. Crossbow II. was close after him and the pair led Upside Down by two lengths with Abner alongside the Bostwick colt. Arcaro had Crossbow II. under a slight restraint as he kept step with Clocks and it was not until inside the final furlong that he asked Crossbow II. for his best. There he went to the front but had to be sharply ridden out to beat the fast-closing Abner by half a length. Abner had swung around to the outside in the stretch and was going bet-ten than Crossbow II. at the finish. Upside Down could never improve his position and was not punished when well beaten in the stretch. The opening six furlongs dash for maiden juveniles of cheap class started the day with a thrill when three crossed the line closely lapped and a photograph was required to give the decision. This revealed that Kay Kamens Snap Judgment was up in the last nod to beat Mrs. James V. Stewarts Romney Royal, with Saint Pierre, racing for John Sanford, just another head away. Far back of these, fourth went to Belshazzar. There was some delay at the post, owing to Continued on sixteenth page..
