GOGGLES IN SPLENDID EFFORT Responds Readily Under Mitchells Good Ride to Win at Long Branch. Camera Needed to Decide Victors in Three Spirited Contests at Toronto Track-Shadow Waltz at Good Odds. TORONTO, Ont, Oct 9. Spectacular finishes which necessitated the use of the camera-eye for the final decision in three races featured a well balanced card of claiming events at Long Branch on Friday. xThe fifth race, a gallop of a mile and seventy yards, which served as the best offering on the program, resulted in a victory for Goggles, racing in the interests of Stan Crawford, local patron. Sass, along with Stormer, was used up in pacemaking and weakened badly in the final drive. Another close finish was recorded at the finish of the third race, when Tommy Rose was up to earn a nose decision at the end of the six furlongs, scoring at the direct expense, of Queens Color, while a neck away, Dalamac was a fast closing third. The race was for juveniles and again a limit field faced the starter. The victory of Tommy Rose was the first of his career. Goanwin, the favorite, had enough speed, to establish a short lead to the stretch, Here Doris Ramsdcn moved up on the outside to chal- Continued on thirty-ninth page.
