War Admiral Named for Richard Johnson Stakes Hero of Eastern Shore Handicap to Meet Billionaire, Bottle Cap and Other Star Juveniles in Todays Main Attraction at Laurel Park LAUREL, Md., Oct. 9. Headed by three of the best known two-year-olds in the country, a field of sixteen has been named overnight for the Richard Johnson Stakes, feature of tomorrows program at the Maryland State Fair course here. War Admiral, Glen Riddle Farms sensational winner of the Eastern Shore Handicap, tops the weights with an assignment of 124 pounds, and his principal opponents promise to include E. R. Bradleys Billionaire and the Millsdale Stables Bottle Cap, which are to carry 120 and 119 pounds respectively. -A drizzle today indicated soft going for the Richard Johnson renewal, and this may result in several withdrawals, but they may not involve any of the principals. Some improvement is expected in the weather tomorrow and if conditions are good a large crowd is expected because of the great interest shown in this section over the promised appearance of such recognized two-year-old leaders as War Admiral, Bottle Cap and Billionaire, as well as of Orientalist, Rex Flag, Yellow Tulip and other capable youngsters. IMPROVED DON GUZMAN. With all sixteen facing the barrier for the six furlongs race, the Richard Johnson Stakes, to which is added ,500, will have a gross value of ,390, with the winners net share amounting to ,230. War Admiral, which won the Eastern Shore Handicap with many lengths to spare and in the fastest time in the history of the event, is expected to rule a stout favorite, even though he is being asked to give weight to all the others. Charles Kurtsinger. who handled the son of Man o War and Brush Up in the Havre de Grace stake, is due from New York to ride him again. Billionaire will be entrusted to Silvio Coucci, who recently joined the Bradley stable. The Italian boy has had but a few mounts since arriving here and has been thoroughly freshened up. The Bradley colt worked very pleasingly here the other morning after his disappointing performance in the Belmont Futurity. Bottle Cap, like War Admiral, will be making his first start since the Eastern Shore Handicap. In that event he came from far back in the stretch to finish fourth, but he would have been second in another stride or two. Second and third honors in that race fell I to Orientalist and Rex Flag, which are rated among the Richard Johnson contenders. The supporting program of seven events is headed by the Westminster Handicap at a mile and one-sixteenth and its overnight field of seven includes Where Away, Roustabout, Finance, Azucar, Maeriel. Corinto and Moon Side, all of which have been prominent in racing affairs this season. I .
