CAW CAW, fractious and away slowly, worked his way forward steadily, drove through the field to reach the lead entering the stretch, responded to strong urging in the last stages and held TWO EDGED safe. The latter, a strong factor from the start, took command nearing the final quarter, gave way to the winner, but held on well. FANDAN, outrun for a half mile, was forced to lose ground when racing forwardly and came fast in the final eighth. MAL1MOU made up ground. CABLEGRAM and JERDAN tired.
