AURORA TURF NOTES f s Joseph Baumback, who trains the horses of Mrs. E. H. Bartlett, which includes the New Orleans champion Zevson, will ship five head, including his handicap star, to Aurora, according to a wire received by racing secretary Dick Leigh, Tuesday morning. Sammy Hoiman, veteran conditioner, will have six head on the Fox Valley Grounds during the meeting. William Reichert shipped seven head to Aurora on Monday to be campaigned during the spring meeting of the Fox Valley Jockey Club, starting May 1. Sir Midas, which ran third in the Arkansas Derby, will be in the shipment and also has been nominated for the Illinois Derby, 2,000 added, to be run May 22. One of the early arrivals is the fleet sprint star Black River, which runs in the name of Long and Sullivan, and is trained by M. Haller. In a most recent start at Tropical Park, Black River was beaten two noses for all the money, running the distance in the fast time of 1:10, for six furlongs. In all, Black River has won three races this year. Jack Bainton, veteran visitor to Aurora, was among the early arrivals, bringing with him seven head, which included Evening Gown, Cheerus, Goldman, Scotland Topsy, King Pin, Black Peter and Strange Times. Charlie Eames, veteran jockey, who now trains the horses of his wife, also was one who was on the job early. He has Fancy Flight and Dr. Jillson. Morris Brothers, with a total of fifteen head; Chappel Brothers with eleven head, A. G. Tarn with twelve, Mrs. C. C. Winters with eight, and R. J. Allen with ten are among the larger stables already quartered here and getting their horses ready. The weather has turned suddenly warm and, with bright sunshine, track superintendent Frigerio has the track in good shape, and the horses are starting to take short breezes in the morning trials. Butsey Hernandez has a total of eight head on the grounds, which came direct from New Orleans. The remainder of the Hernandez horses will come from Arlington Downs. Ward Gosselin, operator of the Aurora and Leland hotels, said that there are very few rooms available in town and that unless horsemen make early reservations before coming, they are likely to be shut out at the last, minute. Early arrivals among the staff include Charlie Eddy, Phil Amend, John Morrow, John Le Blanc and Cliff Abbo. J. W. Johnston will ship his string from Hot Springs on April 15. Among the expected arrivals Tuesday are-the horses of Frank Seremba, which include nineteen head and seven of Red Wolem-dorff. Trainer Dick Heffernan for Alderman J. J. Coughlin unloaded five head from New Orleans which includes the fleet three-year-old High Lark. Charlie Cherry, a veteran in these parts, checked in with two head during the early part of last week. The leading apprentice rider of the New Orleans meeting, the sensational Cuban jockey Jose Marrero, who is under contract to Mrs. C. C. Winters, will ride at the Aurora meeting. Marrero is now enjoying a short vacation in Havana. The leading money winning stables at New Orleans, which include B. Hernandez, who led the pack with 4,735 winnings; E. K. Bryson, Mrs. C. C. Winters, C. Troutt, Mrs. E. B. Shipp, Mrs. E. H. Bartlett, Coward and Coffey are among the early applications for stall room at Aurora. Chuck Miller, a native of these parts, unloaded two head in the first shipment admitted to the grounds. .Jack Klucina, who has been ill all winter, was another who put in an early appearance.
