PROGRESSING AT KEENELAND Much Activity Displayed Preparing Lexington Track for Opening. Mort Shaw Getting Tote Department In Shape Phoenix Handicap Weights Due. II. P. Ileadley Returns. LEXINGTON, Ky., April 13. Greeted by clear and warmer weather, the Kceneland management moved steadily ahead -today to get the plant In tip-top working order for the opening of the eleven-day spring meeting on Saturday. Workmen put the finishing touches on the new addition to the clubhouse, and to the small grandstand for Negro patrons, while markers for the parking grounds were laid out. Anticipating larger crowds than were present last year, the capacity of the parking has been doubled. Mortimer Shaw, director of the wagering department, and his principal assistant, Ernest White, arrived from Miami and Louisville, respectively, and, with Oscar Levy, representing the American Totalizator Company, coming from Los Angeles, they marshalled forces to whip the tote department into shape. An increased number of windows will be available because of changes made on the main floor of the grandstand and in the clubhouse. The back wall on the mezzanine floor of the grandstand was moved back several feet so that more persons can be accommodated on that level. READY TO ISSUE BADGES. In the secretarys office Sidney S. Brown and Fred Burton were at their desks receiving registration lists and they will begin issuing badges within a day or two. It was announced that the races for two-year-olds will be a full four furlongs, as starter William Hamilton found sufficient room left in the chute to place the starting gate. Jockey Hilton Dabson arrived from his Maryland home and reported to the Green-tree Stable, which has taken first call on his services. Tom B. Young, who has one of the larger stables here, has second call on Dabson. President Hal Price Headley returned from a brief visit to Louisville and announced that Anthony Pelleteri was sending over fifteen horses; Al Dunne, five Horses, John McShane, and James Gass, ,one each. Frank P. Letellier also sending over a draft of his stable from Churchill Downs. Weights for the Phoenix Handicap, ,500 added dash of six furlongs, featuring the inaugural program, will be released tomorrow by racing secretary Charles J. McLennan. Eight, horses .owned by E. W. Duffy of Detroit arrived today from Columbia in charge of trainer G. R. Miller. Heading tho shipment was the Kentucky Derby candidate Grey Gold, others being sir Jim James, Court, Belleek, Captain Byam, Que Gato, Blond Real and Steel Knight two-year-old chestnut son of Bright Knot and Sister Ship. Mose Goldblatt stopped off en route from Cincinnati to Louisville and made reservations for the following five horses: Dnieper, Silversmith, Dr. Menendez, Black Buddy and Good Selka. They will be vanned here tomorrow. He leaves a like number at Churchill Downs.
