t HAVRE DE GRACE NOTES e 6 Apprentice A. Schmldl, under contract to Charles Raynor, will become a full fledged jockey on Thursday. Schmidls five-pound allowance will expire after Wednesdays racing at Havre de Grace. Horsemen desiring to race at the ten-day Hagerstown Fair and Racing Associations spring meeting starting May 18 are requested to file applications for stalls immediately with Edward J. Brennan, who will serve in his usual position of racing secretary. Charles Kurtslnger, contract rider for Mrs. Emil Denemark, has been engaged to ride War Admiral for the Glen Riddle Farm Stable in the Kentucky Derby. Roy Gordon, outrider here and at Pimlico, Bowie, Laurel and various other tracks, has been appointed to serve in the same capacity at Delaware Park. Vincent Treanor, steward of the Gables Racing Association and placing judge at Hialeah Park, checked in from Miami and expects to remain for many more days of the sport here. Treanor reports that William Vincent Dwyer, Jr., who suffered a fractured skull when thrown in the amateur riders race at Tropical Park, is progressing favorably at the Miami Beach Hospital. Jockey Harry Richards has been informed that trainer Cyrus F. Clarke sims to start Pompoon in the Faumonok Handicap at Jamaica, Thursday, and will leave after the final race at Havre de Grace on Wednesday to accept the mount on the J. H. Louchheim colt. Richards will return to Maryland for Fridays racing. Edward J. Brennan left late Tuesday evening for Middleburg, Va., to serve in an official capacity for the Middleburg Hunt Association. Over 300 stall applications from eastern stables have been made for the approaching meeting at Agawam Park, according to William Shewbridge, who is accepting applications from horsemen. Walter McConnell, who serves as assistant mutuel manager to Frank D. Schuyler at Tropical Park, is on the mutuel staff at Havre de Grace. McConnell stated that the recent meeting of the Gables Association was the best in point of attendance and mutuel play since the plant opened several years ago. Speed to Spare and Postage Due, starters for Alfred G. Vanderbilt in the Harford Handicap on Monday, were loaded early Tuesday morning and transferred to Jamaica. Both colts will be named for the Paumonok Handicap to be run on opening day. Fraidy Cat, owned by Hal Price Headley, was shipped to Jamaica to fulfill an engagement in the Paumonok Handicap, to be run Thursday. Faidy Cat was named overnight for the Harford Handicap, but was withdrawn in favor of the Metropolitan Jockey Clubs spring special. Raymond Workman, ace rider of the C. V. Whitney stable, was a visitor at Havre de Grace, Tuesday.. Workman will leave for New York to ride on Thursday, and his engagements will be made by George Burke. Loft, Mrs. Parker Corning, J. P. Jones, H. W. Maxwell, Mrs. Louise Viau, and John Hay Whitney. The star riders who are ready to don silks are Harry Richards, Hubert Le Blanc Johnny Gilbert, Jackie Westrope, Eddie De Camillas, Charlie Kurtsinger, Lloyd Knapp Leo Fallon, Sammy Renick, Charlie Rosen-garten, Wayne D. Wright, Joe OMalley, J. Jaekle, Al Schmidl, Jackie Gordon, Frankie Dougherty, C Parke, A. Pascuma, Ralph Eccard, Hilton Dabson, R. Morris, and Willie Saunders. Keen interest is being evidenced In the ,500 Philadelphia Handicap April 17. This race will see Buddy Hirschs Columbiana among the starters. This miss startled the turf world last winter by winning the 0-000 Widener Challenge Cup at Hialeah Park. Florida. She was shipped here at the close of the Hialeah session and the rest seems to have done her a world of good.
