PAWTUCKET, R, L, April 13. Races over a distance of ground proved tremendously popular at Narragansett Park last season and, true to his predilection of giving the public what it wants, president Walter E. OHara ha3 instructed racing secretary Pat Horgan to renew and even enlarge upon the Endurance Series, which have made such a hit with the racing public. Accordingly, Horgan announces today details of the series that will be staged at the summer meeting. This will be a string of six races, one to be decided each week, and the distances are one mile and an eighth for race No. 1, increasing to two miles and an eighth for race No. 6, the last of the series. The first four races of the series will be claiming races the last two will be non-claiming but horses must start in two of the first four to be eligible for the two non-claiming finals. The races will be confined to four-year-olds and upward, and the substantial purses will take a sharp rise in value as the distances are increased throughout the series. The. interesting conditions devised by Horgan and the valuable inducements hung up by Mr. OHara make this Endurance Series highly attractive to horsemen and keen, enjoyable racing is bound to result. At Narragansetts spring meeting, two-year-olds will be sent over four and four and a half furlongs. At the summer meeting, juveniles will be stretched out to five and a half and six furlongs. At no time will the older horses be sent anything less than six furlongs stamina, rather than blazing speed, will be the quality most demanded by the condition books now being developed by secretary Horgan. a
