W. L HEWITT CHIEF STEWARD Hia Appointment Announced by Incorporated Canadian Racing Association. TORONTO, Ont, April 13. The Incorporated Canadian Racing Association today officially announced the appointment of W. A. Hewitt, former sporting editor of the Toronto Daily Star, as steward to represent the Incorporated Canadian Racing Association at all meetings held under the jurisdiction of that association this season. Mr. Hewitt succeeds Davis S. Gillies, who resigned the post at the close of last season. H. C. Baldwin, who resigned as custodian of the jockeys quarters at the Incorporated Canadian Racing Association courses, has been succeeded by William Stevenson, it was also announced. The roster of Incorporated Canadian Racing officials this season Is, therefore, made up of the following: Steward, W. A. Heawitt; clerk of the scales and assistant to secretary, J. J. Far-rell; custodian of Jockeys rooms, William Stevenson; starter, Thomas Rowe. Mr. Hewitt, who is also general manager of Maple Leaf Gardens, is no stranger to the turf. His first official position on a race track was patrol judge at Woodbine Park. He has served in the placing judges stand at Thorncliffe Park since the track was opened in 1920 and also served in the stand at the Old Windsor Jockey Club in Windsor and at the A. M. Orpen track; also Devonshire; in- Windsor, and Stamford Park, at Niagara Falls.
