GERALD, IVORY TIP AND CHIGRE IN DERBY WORK LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 13. With most of the local Derby horses having put in their hard licks over the week-end and yesterday, there was a lull in activity this morning. Those to work thi3 morning were Mrs. W. H. Fursts Gerald, which breezed three-quarters at the Downs in 1:19; Morris Ve-hons Ivory Tip, which worked a handy five-eighth in 1:04 at the same track, and H. C. Applegates Chigre, which breezed three furlongs at Douglas Park in :42. Both courses were fast. Chigres move was in preparation for something more pretentious tomorrow, when he will have his final brisk local trial before going to Keeneland, where he is scheduled to make his three-year-old debut on Saturday, track conditions permitting. Ominous clouds prompted trainer Bert B Williams to bring Gerald out on the track today, instead of waiting until tomorrow, which was to have been his regular work day. The Furst colt had an easy gallop and is doing exceptionally well.
