I SIXTEEN NAMED FOR ASCOT GOLD CUP RENEWAL TODAY , i ASCOT, England, June 16 Sixteen of the turfs best stayers, including the 1936 winner, Quashed, were listed today as probable starters in tomorrows Gold Cup, premier event of the Ascot race meeting. Quashed, a filly owned by Lord Stanley, won last year by the shortest of margins from William Woodwards Omaha, who was scratched from this years race yesterday. The event is run over two and one-half miles, making it one of the most exacting races on the calendar. The probable starters are: Cecil, Satsuma, Buckleigh, Mansur, Quprn II., Quashed, Carius, Reaburn, Le Due, Precipitation, Fearless Fox, Boswell, Rondo, Penny Royal, Cousine, and Suzerain. A K. Macombers Mansur, one of the French-breds, will be in the field. William Woodwards St. Leger winner, Boswell, and his itblemate, Lady Zia Wemhers Precipitation, rate best of the home-trained four-year-olds and Capt. Cecil Boyd-Rockforts starter should be a worthy substitute for the unfortunate Omaha.
