ARLINGTON PARK OFFICIALS Major Louis Beard Replaces George Brown, Jr. as Steward. Appointment of R. P. McAuIiffe as Assistant Clerk of Scales Only Changes Over Last Season. Otto E. Lehman, president of the Arlington Park Jockey Club, announced today that with the exception of the appointment of Maj. Louis Beard as steward and Robert P. McAuIiffe as assistant clerk of scales, the official family for the north side meeting opening June 28, will be the same as last year. Major Beard, director of - the Whitney racing interests, succeeds George Brown, Jr., as steward. Brown will serve in the stand at Delaware Park and Beard, well known in the Chicago section, will share the upper stand duties with Christopher J. FitzGerald, Sr., the state steward. In keeping with Arlington Park tradition one honorary steward, a prominent mid-western sportsman selected by the Arlington Park Jockey Club officials, will serve without remuneration. In the past the custom has been to ask appointees to grace the stand for a racing week, five serving during the thirty-day meeting. Charles J. McLennan returns again as racing secretary and handicapper. This leading official is much in demand throughout America, particularly during the midsummer season, but he remains at Arlington Park, where his father, the late Joseph McLennan, served before him. DUAL POSITION. C. J. FitzGeerald, Jr., son of the veteran state steward, will carry the double burden of placing judge and clerk of scales. In the latter office, FitzGerald will be assisted by Robert McAuIiffe, rising young official on Chicago and Florida tracks. Roy Dickerson, graduate of the famous Mars Cassidy school, again will handle the starting duties, while Mortimer Shaw will be in charge of the modern American electric totalizator. Following are the officials: Stewards: C. J. FitzGerald, Sr. representing the Illinois Racing Commission, Major Louis A. Beard, and one honorary steward selected by the Arlington Park Jockey Club. Racing secretary and handicapper: Charles J. McLennan. Placing judges: C. J. FitzGerald, Jr., S. S. Brown and E. A. Hileman. Paddock judges: William Doyle and E. A. Hileman. Patrol judges: William Doyle, George Swain and William Davis. Clerk of scales: C. J. FitzGerald, Jr. Assistant clerk of scales: Robert P. McAuIiffe. Starter: Roy Dicker-son. Timer: William Cunningham. Totalizator director: Mortimer Shaw. Track veterinarian: Dr. C. McKillop. Track superintendent: Clarence Brinkman.
