t BAY MEADOWS NOTES and $ Coming out of an enforced retirement to fill the gap in jockey ranks left vacant by Thompson, is Ralph Neves. Neves has just completed an exceptionally harsh six months suspension inflicted at Bay Meadows last fall. Another rider that will accept mounts is Willie Root, who knows something about lengthy suspensions himself, having been on the ground- for a lengthy period, a couple of years ago, for claiming the apprentice allowance to which he was not entitled. Root has been riding at Agua Caliente. Cloud DOr, among the popular sprint performers for several years in this region, will be on the shelf for an indefinite period. Failing to withstand the routine of training, prompted trainer W. T. Westrope to blister the veteran performer, which will be absent from competition until, late this summer. Aside from the Howard string, several other stables have departed or will s.oon depart to test their strength in the East. The Burnell Stable, in charge of trainer Roy Sel-den, left for Maryland while Frank Car-reaud, famed as the owner of Time Supply, is sending several head to the same point. Joe Brooks has shipped six horses to Rockingham while Joe Wood, ex-jockey, sent his two head to. New England. Bay Meadows began its final week of the spring season Tuesday afternoon and, going into the final five days, the track was showing a slight profit on the season. It is necessary for the plant to average a trifle over 30,000 per day to break even and, thanks to Saturdays 24,000 business, the daily average is now just above 60,000.
