TEST NEW BOARD AT DOWNS Board Not Entirely Completed Horns for Public Address System Already Installed. LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 19. The electrically operated odds board, a part of the gigantic totalizator system being installed at Churchill Downs, has had satisfactory tests the past two days. While not entirely completed, the board, said to be one of the largest of its kind in the world, will be in readiness for the opening of the Downs meeting, a week from Saturday. The bull horns which will spread the amplified voice over the public address system, were being placed and they were to be tested later in the week. A series of three such horns are mounted in the centerfield, and, according to engineers, the voice of the announcer as it comes out of these, will carry to all parts of the grandstand and lawns and front tiers of the clubhouse. Within a few days all carpentry work and painting will have been completed, and then will remain only scattered minor jobs and the final cleaning to put the mammoth plant in order for the opening. Next week will see landscape gardeners setting out 40,000,-odd plants and shrubs.
