DR. TOWNSEND PARDONED WASHINGTON, D. C, April 19. Just as he was about to enter the local jail here to begin serving a thirty-day sentence for contempt of a House committee, Dr. Francis E. Townsend, old age pension proponent, was pardoned by President Roosevelt. It was an unconditional pardon, thereby nullifying the 00 fine as well as the prison term.
