WAR ADMIRAL WORKS IN MUD Champion at Home in Any Footing and Over Any Track Tatterdemalion Gallops 3-4 Mile. JAMAICA, N. Y., April 19. The rain of Monday night and a sloppy condition of the various training grounds on Long Island yesterday morning prevented trainers from doing much with their horses, but several were under saddle in useful exercises. The champion, War Admiral, was one of these, and George Conway permitted the mighty atom to breeze for six furlongs through the sloppy going in 1:24. All tracks look alike to the son of Man o War and Brushup and he was eager to run all the way. The only engagement made for the great four-year-old at the present Jamaica meeting is in the Excelsior Handicap and it is questionable if he will be sent to the post for that race. Another that was on the track at Belmont Park and a candidate for the Excelsior was Thomas J. Healeys Tatterdemalion, winner of the Tropical Handicap, the final big prize of the long Florida season. The sturdy son of St. Germans and Elf was only breezed six furlongs, but he is always at home in the sloppy going and he splashed along over the distance in 1:19, hard held.
