MENOfS MUDDY TRACK WORK Headley Golt Breezes One Mile Under Restraint in 1 : 49. Stands Alone Takes Honors for Trial Gallops at Lexington Bull Leas Training Completed. LEXINGTON, Ky., April 19. Despite a muddy track, Kentucky Derby and Blue Grass Stakes eligibles had a busy session at Keeneland Park this morning. Although his work was not of a fast order, Hal Price Headleys Menow came in for the most attention when he visited the track at an early hour for a mile spin. Going along well in hand throughout, the home-bred son of Phar-amond II. Alcibiades breezed a mile in 1:49. It was his final "prep" before his engagement in the Mereworth Purse on Thursday. The fractions were :26, :52 and 1:20. Although he won the Trial Handicap in easy fashion, Menow has not been tested at a distance greater than six and one-half furlongs, and as the Mereworth will be run over one mile and one-sixteenth, that race probably will decide whether he will continue to train for the Kentucky Derby. In Thursdays feature he is expected to engage far more stronger competition than he met in the Trial. Warren Wrights Bull Lea will be one of the members of the field, and the son of Bull Dog has had several mile drills. WORKS HANDILY. From a time standpoint James C. Stones Stands Alone was the star of the morning training. The son of Blondin ran a mile in 1:41, handily, after stepping the half mile in :49 and three-qutrters in 1:15. Stands Alone was a well-beaten fourth in the Old Kenny Purse last Saturday, but trainer Henry Loudon was not satisfied with the race and he, too, will be a starter on Thursday. Mrs. George B. Cox Congressman, a Derby and Blue Grass Stakes eligible, breezed a half mile in :5316. Excepting an "opener" over the private track at Calumet Farm, Bull Lea has completed his training for .the Mereworth Purse-Trainer Frank Kearns is satisfied with his condition and is eagerly awaiting the colts 1938 debut.
