w j I j ! i j I j j : I 1 1 ; MUCHO GUSTO STAKE ELIGIBLE Crack Ramsey Performer Named for Four Crete Headliners. Veteran Handicap Performer Good At Any Distance — Coming to Lincoln Fields From Louisville. CRETE, 111., May 24— Mucho Gusto, one of the nations most versatile performers in the handicap division, has two engagements to keep in Chicago next week. Mucho Gusto has an engagement in the ,000 added Crete Handicap, the feature of the opening of the major Chicago racing season at Lincoln Fields on Monday, Memorial Day. Much Gusto has another engagement on Saturday, June 4, in the ,000 added Steger Handicap at the beautiful south side course. It wouldnt be surprising if trainer Kirby Ramsey sent him after both in an attempt to make Much Gustos stake record even more imposing than it is. Much Gusto is no stranger to Lincoln Fields. Two years ago, when he was just a four-year-old, this sturdy son of Marvin May and Sweetheart Time carried Mrs. Kirby Ramseys colors to victory in both the Lincoln Handicap and the Francis S. Peabody Memorial Handicap. His third stake win of the year was later in the fall at River Downs when he scored in the East Hills Handicap. The triple-stake winner caught the eye of Walter OHara, then head of the Narragan-sett oval. He purchased Mucho Gusto for his Araho Stable. There was never any reason to regret the purchase, for in 1937 Mucho Gusto won or placed in the money in no less than fifteen stakes, a record exceeded only by Esposas sixteen efforts. STAKE VICTORIES. Included in his victories were the Rowe Memorial at Bowie, the Narragansett Hand-| icap and Governors Handicap at Narragan-: sett and the Pilgrim Handicap at Suffolk. Then, late in the fall, the Araho Stable sold many of their horses, and Kirby Ram-| sey bought his favorite back to be raced in the silks of Ramsey and Coppage. Mucho Gustos reaction was to win his fourth stake of the year, the Christmas Handicap at Tropical Park. The remarkable thing about his record is that his stake wins were at distances from six furlongs to a mile and a furlong. Distance and track conditions are nothing to Mucho Gusto. This year Mucho Gusto has already cap-! tured four stakes, the Phocian Howard Memorial Handicap, the Orange Blossom Hand-! icap and the Coral Gables Spring Handicap, all at Tropical Park. Mucho Gusto has been named for all four I Lincoln Fields stakes for which he is eligi-| ble. He will be shipped here from Louis-j ville at the end of the week and may be j ready for an immediate engagement against I such speedsters as Marica, Crossbow II. and j Preeminent. Mucho Gusto, whatever the ! conditions, is sure to be prominent during j the Crete stake program throughout the i twenty-four-day meeting.
