FAMINE IN FAST WORKOUT Runs Nine Furlongs in 1:59% Over Slow Track for Kentucky Oaks Engagement. LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 24.— Fantine, fine home-bred filly in John O. Keenes stable and one of the ranking candidates for the sixty-fourth Kentucky Oaks, to be renewed for a purse of ,000 added here at Churchill Downs Saturday, worked the nine furlongs distance of that fixture over a slow track this morning in 1:59%. It was a splendid move, the daughter of Whichone running easily throughout. She went the quarter in :24-4s, half in :49*:,, three-quarters in 1:16 and a mile in 1:45. Greentree Stables Lourdes, another well regarded for the same fixture, had an easy rehearsal yesterday. With slop under foot, she breezed a mile in 1:48%. In Saturdays race she will be handled by Porter Roberts, according to John Gaver, trainer of the Greentree horses. Flying Lee and Drift Along, H. P. Head-leys scheduled representative in Saturdays stake, will arrive Thursday from New York. A starter from the same stable for the ,000 added Bashford Manor Stakes to be run Monday may accompany the two three-year-lold fillies.
