BOSTON, Mass., May 24.— In front all the way from the start to the finish, Mrs. G. C. Whites Blue Marvel, four-year-old bay gelding by Masked Marvel II. — Blue Light, defeated a select field of sprinters this afternoon to win the fifth race, feature of the days program at Suffolk Downs. Blue Marvel was overlooked in the wagering which made Phil Biebers Superwick the favorite and closed at odds of better than 8-1, paying 8.40 for a mutuel ticket. He raced under T. Dickinsons urging like a 1-10 shot as he ran the three-quarters in lls, second fastest time of the meeting and won by more than a length over Superwick. Third in the running was Eleanor T. Granfields Dark Beau, fourth being the second choice in the wagering, Shangay Lily. Fifth and last was Gala Star. Actually there was little doubt as to the outcome once the field started on its way. Blue Marvel broke fast and was a length in front when the horses steadied in their strides. Superwick was racing second with Gala Star third. Dark Beau was fourth and the South American mare raced in last place. Dickinson kept Blue Marvel hustling along while Gala Star, after going a half mile quit with Dark Beau and Shangay Lily making their bids. Superwick made one charge in the stretch at the pacemaker but could not improve his position while Dark Beau just outlasted Shangay Lily for the show money. The first five races saw only one favorite winning, that coming in the opening dash when C. Bains Elylee was returned winner.
