STRACHEY STILL DETAINED NEW YORK, N. Y., Oct. 12. J. Strachey, British author and lecturer on communism, remained at Ellis Island yesterday pending the outcome of his appeal to the secretary of labor of the refusal of immigration authorities to permit him to enter the United States. Strachey, who vigorously denied he is a communist, was barred because a visa he obtained on his passport at London was canceled before he reached American shores.
