DETROIT BUYS CONACHER DETROIT, Mich., Oct. 12. The Detroit - Red Wings hockey team announced the purchase of Charley Conacher of Toronto for a reported price of 6,000 to be paid in installments. Fear of the recurrence of an old injury was the reason for the installment method of payment. It was said that Detroit paid ,000 down with the balance to be paid In annual installments of ,000 and ,000 each if Conacher continues able to play. A shoulder injury has kept Conacher on the sidelines the greater part of the last two years. He was the leading scorer of the National Hockey League in 1935-36. Earlier this fall it was rumored that the Chicago Slack Hawks were after Conacher.
