ARCHWORTH SCORES EASILY Triumphs in First Renewal of Mrs. Orpens Cup and Saucer at Long Branch Track. TORONTO, Ont., Oct. 12. Archworth, racing for C. G. McCullagh, scored an easy triumph in the first renewal of the Mrs. Orpen Cup and Saucer, Canadas richest juvenile prize. Ridden by jockey S. D. Birley, the son of Worthmore Archipelago held a two and one-half lengths advantage before : H. Giddings Sea General at the end of the : mile and seventy yards. Third went to the-western ; representative Light Birch, from the Whittier Park Stock Farm, five lengths back : and three lengths before Parkwood Stables Skyrunner. Jelwell, racing for the Cosgrave Stable ; and installed an odds-on choice, proved a disappointment and, after meeting sharp interference in the early stages, finished in seventh place. In accounting for the running of the Cup and Saucer, Archworth added to his victory in the Clarendon Plate at Thorncliffe Park. The sturdy colt will go into winter quarters favored for the 1939 running of the Kings Plate. Archworth raced the mile and seventy yards in 1:44 and earned the winners share of ,010. Following the running, Mrs. A. M. j Orpen, widow of the founder of Long Branch, presented the solid gold trophy, which is valued at 00, to Mrs. C. G. McCullagh. A crowd of over 8,000 was on hand for the sport, which was raced under dull skies, but with ideal weather prevailing. The racing strip was at its best.
