BANNER MAN, going strongly to force the early pace, responded stoutly when placed to a vigorous drive, raced to the front when straightened into the stretch and was under severe urging to withstand KEY MAN. The latter improved his position on the outside and finished full of run in the last three-sixteenths. SIR KHAYYAM, lacking early speed, bettered his position on the outside and came courageously under punishment in the late stages. BACK PAGE was a forward factor throughout and held on willingly to the end. SEABREAD displayed good speed after getting to the front and saved ground, but failed to rally when placed to punishment. PART ONE raced eveniy all the way. BROWN IMP lost ground and closed a good gap. LATEPASS was unable to enter contention. IMMUNITY tired after being prominent to the stretch turn. HAPPY KNOT, racing in her best form, opened up a long lead in the first half mile, was kept out off the rail and responded gamely while tiring to withstand JOANNY. The latter, rated off the early pace, gained fast in the last three-sixteenths and was wearing the winner down gradually when steered to the inside during the stretch drive. SOME COUNT, badly outrun in the first half mile, circled his field and finished full of run. DOG FLOWER was rushed vigorously in the first half mile and tired fast in the last eighth. SEA GULL, going forwardly placed, responded gamely when placed to a drive, overhauled SURE CLOUD and held on strongly to outstay LONE HAND. The latter, away slowly, went to the outside for racing room, bettered his position rapidly and hung after getting to the winner. SCHLEY NURSE, caught in tight quarters going to the first turn, weaved between horses to improve her position early and came to the outside for the closing drive. MISS HOLLYWOOD secured racing room on the inside when sent into contention, then was caught in tight quarters all during the stretch drive. WISPY closed with good courage after falling back. COUNTER PASS, lacking early speed, finished stoutly in the late stages. WOODWAAC was used up forcing the early pace and tired. RIVER DEE was made too much use of getting into contention and tired fast in the last quarter mile. CHILLY EBBIE had no mishaps. FRED ASTAIRE was done early. SURE CLOUD quit badly when caught. GOOD CHANCE, nicely handled, was steadied back of PAPER MAKER for a turn of the field, reached the leaders going to the twelfth fence, moved to the front gradually and, under steady pressure, came away over the last two fences. PAPER MAKER fenced nicely while while setting the pace, struck the eleventh fence when beginning to tire and was unable to stay with the winner when caught midway of the final turn. RIOTER, going forwardly for the first turn of the field, stumbled badly at the tenth fence, dropped far back and was unable to threaten for the balance of the trip. JOURNEY ON, having much speed, opened up a wide gap when straightened into the back stretch, was kept out off the rail swinging into the stretch, responded to punishment and fought it out stubbornly. LADY MARYLAND, permitted to settle in stride after being slow to get going, improved her position on the outside and finished determinedly approaching, the finish. BABY TALK saved much ground from the start and closed with excellent courage in the final drive when taken to the outside. JOHN FRANCIS was rated back of the pacemaker, moved up stoutly rounding the final turn, took a brief lead in the last eighth, but hung nearing the finish. KINDACORN swung to the outside when straightened into the back stretch, improved her position steadily, wore the leaders down entering the stretch, to gain a brief lead and held on detrmincdly while crowding over on MOTHEL nearing the finish. MOTHEL saved ground from the start, luckily obtained racing room on the inside of the leaders rounding the last turn, reached the winner in the last eighth and was caught in tight quarters approaching the finish. A claim of foul against the winner was not allowed. BALAPIN was rated close up. made a stout bid midway of the final turn and held on gamely. PRINCE PETTIE could not get clear while setting the pace, but held on willingly to figure in a dead heat for third. JUSTA FLIGHT had no excuses. BEST POLICY was used up early. ERADA was outrun.
