I LONG BRANCH TURF NOTES f s $ Jockey Sterling Young leads the riders at Long Branch for the Orpen contest prize of 00, when he registered seventy-seven points for the first six days. Pascuma is the closest rival with twenty-nine, while Schmidl had twenty-seven and Remillard twenty-four. The contest is carried through the seven days at Dufferin Park, but it is doubtful if any rider will overtake Youngs commanding lead. Entries will be taken at Long Branch during the Dufferin Park meeting by W. G. Kelly. Scratches will be accepted until 8:15 each morning and entries until 9:15. Free van service will be furnished from local tracks. Horsemen are reminded that the opening day handicaps at Dufferin Park close on Thursday. The six and one-half furlongs handicap will be for horses foaled in Canada, and the mile and one-sixteenth handicap is an open affair. The jockey payroll at Long Branch totalled ,640 for the first six days. S. Young led the riders with ten winners, seven seconds and five thirds. C. McTague is next with four winning mounts. Jockey J. Thomas reported sick to clerk of the scales and cancelled his mounts for the day. The first race will go to the post at Dufferin Park at 1:30 sharp on Saturdays and 1:45 on other days. Jockey S. Young departs for New York on Thursday to ride at Jamaica.
