2 ! ! ; 1 PLAN EIGHT RACES DAILY Shreveport Officials Anxious to Stage Long-Distance Races. Polo Ponies to Meet Again Over Same Distance as Previous Race Weather Improves. SHREVEPORT, La., Nov. 8. Eight races a day will be the program for the remainder of the week at the Sherveport Fair Grounds track. The announcement was made today by officials of the State Jockey Club at the behest of horsemen and fans, and the officials further stated that the additional event daily would be fashioned for horses capable of competing over a route of ground. Programs at the local course have included as many distance contests as a seven-race card would permit, but owners of the track are eager to place greater emphasis on the route affairs. The officials also announced today that the amateur riders and their polo mounts who staged such a thrilling contest on November 1, have been re-matched and will come together on Thursday in a special attraction. The riders are members of the Shreveport Riding and Polo Club, and much friendly rivalry has sprung up among them since the first contest which saw nine of them charge across the line of finish with hardly more than six lengths separating the first horse and last. The Polo Pony race will engage exactly the same field which entered the first race and they will clash over the same distance, about three-eighths of a mile. The winner the last time was Thad Andress, while the others who took part in the contest are William Kuykendall, A. V. Young, James Harris, O. K. Hickman, James Pepper, H. R. Scival-ly, and Leon OQuinn. This added attraction will be one of the features of a program which also will include the Arkansas Purse, the Texarkana and the Pine Bluff. Friday will see runnings of the Armistice Day Purse, the Stars and Stripes, the American Legion, the Henry Busse and the Over There Purse, while Saturday has been designated Shreveport Day. Features of this week ends program will be the Shreveport Handicap, the Bossier City and the Cou-shatta purses. With the return of more favorable weather and the improvement of the racing strip, splendid sport should, result for the remainder of the week. The meeting thus far has been notable for the great number of close finishes and many more races bringing together closely matched fields are down for decision the next few days.
