TANFORAN NAMES OFFICIALS James F. Gallagher Presiding Steward Eddie Thomas Starter. Ernest White Taking Charge of "Tote" Department CoL W. II. Steele Made General Manager. SAN BRUNO, Calif., Nov. 8. Officials for the 1938 fall meeting at Tanforan race track, scheduled to open Tuesday, November 15, were listed today by John W. Marchbank, directing owner. A number of changes have been made in the official family, most notable of which are appointments of CoL W. H. Steele as general manager, and John Maluvius as racing secretary. Colonel Steele assumed active command of the Tanforan plant last week. Maluvius is well known in western racing circles, having served as racing secretary at Longacres, Seattle, last summer and previously assistant to Webb Everett at Santa Anita. Tanforan also has a new head of the "tote" j department. Ernest White takes charge of j the men behind the mutuels. White arrived this week from Kentucky, where he holds a high position in the mutuel department at Latonia, Churchill Downs and Keeneland. In j addition White serves at Santa Anita in the i winter as first aid to Mort Shaw and as chief j of the Longacres "tote" in the summer. Full ; list of Tanforan offcials, as announced by! Totalizator department, Ernest White. j The demand for stable room having sur-j passed the capacity of the stall area, John , W. Marchbank ordered construction of a new I llO-stall barn. It is rapidly nearing completion. Numerous stables now at Maryland tracks, in New England or at Santa Anita have booked stable space allotments on the Tanforan course. Officials predict a banner, meeting. j
