SANTA ANITA STAKES CLOSINGj December 1 Last Day in Which to Nominate Horses for Stakes. Hertz and Dencmark Stables Plan to Race at Coast Track for the First Time Reserve Stalls. LOS ANGELES, Calif., Nov. 8. With nominations closing on December 1 for the 00,000 added Santa Anita Handicap on March 4 and the 0,000 added Santa Anita Derby on February 22, the Los Angeles Turf Club is already commencing to receive entries for the field that will ask for weights on December 15. While general manager Charles H. Strub will follow turf practice and not announce the eligibles until the list is completed, the stable reservations being received give a good line on the candidates. The international aspect of the big handicap is being advanced by the horsemen scouting Europe and other parts of the world to try and land the fifth running of the worlds richest stake. A. Pelleteri has already brought over from England, OGrady, a five-year-old tliat has a good record across the "pond." Andrew G. Blakely writes he also has imported another Englishman, Gracious Gift H., and further states that James y. Rank is considering nominating Scottish Union, winner of the St- Leger and second in this years English Derby. The Los Angeles Turf Club, vhow-eyer, has had no word from Mr. Rank, although inquiries have come from Australia and France. MANY NEWCOMERS. Some outstanding stables coming to Santa Anita for the first time will furnish handicap and derby candidates. Among those making reservations may be named Hugh W. Jackson, New York; Mrs. G. H. Emick, Kansas City; Mrs. B. Franzheims Xalapa Farm, Kentucky; Mrs. John D. Hertz, Chicago; Mrs. Emil Denemark, Chicago, and others in the mass of applications not yet cleared. Among the stables which have arrived early for the meeting, opening December 31, or due in next week are John Hay Whitney, seventeen horses; Mrs. G. H. Emick, seven; Dave Butler, twelve; Tommy Taylor, three; Le Mar Stock Farm, two carloads; W. B. Simpson, eight. The majority of the stables in the East with stable reservations at Santa Anita are making shipping plans for after the close of the New England and Maryland seasons. W. E. Boeing was a visitor this week to look over his Belmont Futurity winner. Porters Mite, and his other horses resting here.
