JINX FOLLOWS PEGGY BYRD Lost Many PursesThrough Mishaps Has Been Consistent Gleaner for Leo Beyda. NEW ORLEANS, La., Dec. 6. The jinx that has been pursuing Leo Beydas two-year-old chestnut filly, Peggy Byrd, could not be shaken off, but the daughter of Byrd Peggy Weaver, has never failed to bring back a piece of the purse in the fourteen trips that she has made to the post. In fourteen starts, Peggy Byrd, which was acquired by her present owner from the Rockhome Stable, the nom-de-course of Gus Simone, the filly has finished second ten times and was third on four occasions. Making her initial appearance of the Louisiana Jockey Club meeting, Peggy Byrd finished second, beaten a neck by Linger Awhile, and had it not been for losing considerable ground entering the stretch, she might have succeeded in shaking off the jinx that has dogged her trail. The records reveal that Peggy Byrd has lost the majority of her races by narrow margins, thus recalling to the old-timers a horse that the late James Arthur raced at the Fair Grounds a number of years ago, named Secretary. Secretary finished second in eleven consecutive races at the Fair Grounds soon after the revival of the thoroughbred sport in the Pelican state. I j
