t CHARLES TOWN TURF NOTES and : e Jack Bishop brought the platers Assured and Helen Bab here from Bowie to race during the final two weeks of the meeting. Jockey R. Barnhart, who is riding here, has accepted three mounts since making his riding debut and on each occasion has finished third. It was reported that First Fling, a member of the A. Hullcoat stable, went amiss during work hours a few days ago. Joe Stevens, Jr., departed for New York and is expected to return here in a few days. Bert Mortimer, who galloped Calvacade and other .good horses, is here making the riding engagements of jockey C. Watters. J. F. McDonough, who has a useful string of horses quartered on the grounds here, arrived from Millford, Mass., to inspect his string and remain for several days of the sport. Mrs. J. J. Mick, who has a large string of horses assembled on the grounds at Charles Town, received an addition to her stable in the five-year-old gelding Sylacauga. The new arrival filled the stall left vacant when the six-year-old mare Merry Go Round succumbed from shipping fever here. Jockey Alfred Tryon joined the local riding colony and hopes to get into action immediately. Henry Collins, track superintendent for the Gables Racing Association, operating Tropical Park, sent word here advising horsemen not to ship to Florida unless they have been granted stall space. Both Tropical Park and Hialeah Park barns are filled to capacity and no others can be accommodated. Jockey Trent, who rode in Ohio, came here to ply his trade for the balance of the meeting. The schooling list of starter Wm. Hamilton is made up of the following pupils at the present time: Beau Fast, Dawning, Bright Light, Landsman, Maple Tints and Washoe Valley. Jockey Lou Machado, with four winning mounts during the first three days of the meeting, leads the large riding colony at Charles Town. Jockey A. Balducci is second with three winners. Larry A. Dailey loaded the three horses Col. Scott, Flickering and Ranicilla Sunday and transferred the trio to Tropical Park to await the meeting of the Gables Racing Association.
