I CHARLES TOWN TURF NOTES 4 Jockey Mike Sarno left for his home in Brooklyn, N. Y., to spend a few days with his parents before leaving for Miami, where he will ride for P. B. Codd. Jockey H. Gower, a recent arrival from Shreveport, accepted his first mount of the meeting when he rode Fylfot in the first race Tuesday. Benny Beach, veteran jockey agent, is here making the riding engagements for jockey J. Atkinson. Fred Burton, who serves as racing secretary here, has been offered the position of racing secretary for the Hollywood Jockey Club at Hollywood, Fla., and is expected to accept the position. I Jockey Lou. Machado, leader among the large riding colony at Charles Town with five winners, was taken sick early Tuesday morning and was granted permission to cancel his mounts. Mrs. Hazel M. Babylon, who has a string of nine horses racing in New Orleans under the direction of B. B. Rice, returned from the Crescent City and was present for the racing here. Senator Earl Smith of Fairmount, W. Va., who was instrumental in passing the racing bill in this area, was an interested spectator Tuesday. He was shown over the grounds by Frank Brooke, a member of the racing commission. The horses Truthfully and Frank Brooke will be permitted to start only when the break takes place on the back stretch, according to an edict issued by starter William Hamilton. Officials of the Charles Town Jockey Club are looking forward to attracting the best horses on the grounds to start in the Shenandoah Handicap, to be run here Saturday, at about seven furlongs
