WOMEN BECOMING PROMINENT List of Lady Owners Increasing With Every Season. Two Principal Fair Grounds Stakes Decided Thus Far Won by Members of Fair Sex. NEW ORLEANS, La., Dec. 6. There has been a noticeable increase in the ranks of lady owners in racing during the last few years and the fair sex are strongly represented at the Louisiana Jockey Clubs Fair Grounds course this season, it is revealed through a check of the 295-registrations listed with racing secretary Richard A. Leigh, through today. A total of 126-lady owners of thoroughbreds that will be seen under colors during the 1938-39 season are represented, which is about the largest number ever to be on the registration books of the local track. In past seasons the feminine sex has played an important part in the winning of races at the Fair Grounds and with a larger number available this year, they can be counted on to make a good showing again. WIN TEN RACES. Ten of the first, twenty-eight races decided at the Fair Grounds thus far this season, have been won by horses owned by members of the fair sex, among whom are Mrs. C. C. Winters, Mrs. R. J. Murphy, Mrs. Marion Allen, Mrs. H. C. Rumage, Mrs. J. A. Nix, Mrs. M. E. Martin, Mrs. Charles Grayson, Mrs. Edna Oros, Mrs. L. C. Molay, and Mrs. Cecil Gregory. Both of the two principal features which have gone into the records went to the ladies, Catomars success in the Thanksgiving Handicap being the first and Woodsaw, from the stable of Mrs. J. A. Nix, annexed the Dixie Handicap on last Saturday. Catomars triumph netted her owner ,485, the largest single purse to be gathered in to date, while the success of Woodsaw netted his owner an even ,000. Some of the most pretentious stables quartered at the Fair Grounds this season are the property of women owners, among those being Mrs. A. M. Creech, Mrs. C. C. Winters, Mrs. R. J. Murphy, Mrs. Anthony Pelleteri, Mrs. E. K. Bryson, Mrs. E. Haughton and many others.
