SPECIFY TO BE A STARTER Crack Three-Year-Old Being Pointed for San Francisco Handicap. George Woolf to Bide Main Main in Same Race A. B. Spreckels Handicap to Be Bun Saturday. SAN BRUNO, Calif., Dec. 6. Specify, Bert Baronis crack three-year-old will be a starter in the San Francisco Handicap to be run the closing day of the meeting. Jockey Charlie Corbett, former rider for the Tony Pelleteri stable and rated as one of Americas top reinsman, has been engaged to ride the colt and Specify will arrive from the Southland some time next week. Owner Baroni has formed a habit of preparing his horses in the balmy atmosphere of Southern California for their Bay District stake engagements. A year ago he shipped Star Shadow up from the Los Angeles district to win the Worlds Fair Handicap at Bay Meadows and this fall sent up No Dice to bear his silks. No Dice was not enough horse to win the Worlds Fair although he finished fourth. Now Baroni sends his ace to Tanforan to take a crack at the most important race of the meeting. Specify is without doubt the best horse in the Baroni barn. The Italian turfman believes that he will develop into a better horse than Top Row, which won a Santa Anita Handicap. Specify has been training regularly at Santa Anita and is reported in fit condition. MEET GOOD OPPONENTS. Specify will meet Ligaroti, Olimpo, Main Man, Mr. Blaze and a number of other stars in the San Francisco. It will be by far the best field of the meeting. Nominations do not close until Saturday but it is probable that a dozen or more will be named. Weights will be announced next Tuesday. Main Man, which will be one of the favorites in the San Francisco Handicap, will be ridden by jockey George Woolf. The Sea-biscuit rider began to get acquainted with Main Man Tuesday morning when he rode j him in his exercise gallop. It was the first j time Woolf had been aboard a horse since his arrival on the Coast but he is now back in training following a couple of weeks of relaxation. Main Man will be but one of the four horses that trainer Pinky Grimes may start for the interests of Louis B. Mayer. The others are Ossabaw former steeplechaser that has been working well; Magic Hour another that has yet to make a West Coast appearance and Routine, well known in these parts. Carl Bierman who recently signed to ride for the Mayer stable may have the leg up on Ossabaw. JUVENILE CHAMPIONSHIP. Meanwhile, Tanforan will stage a good race Saturday in the A. B. Spreckels Handicap which should decide the two-year-old championship of the North. Sweet Nancy and Flying Bonny considered two of the best fillies have been nominated as well as a number of other young stars including Mask and Wig. The Spreckels is at six furlongs. A few of those that have been entered in the Spreckels will go to the post in the best race at Tanforan Wednesday. Perfect Blend, Bubbling Boy, Onugo, Brother Nibs and Audacious Lady all nominated in Saturdays feature will perform over the six furlongs distance. Adams, Longden and Coucci are the respective riders of Perfect Blend, Onugo and Brother Nibs. The track was heavy at Tanforan again Tuesday and there seemed but little possibility of a good fast racing strip this week although, should further rains not materialize the strip might be in fair condition for the week-end.
