BRITAIN PUT ON THE SPOT LONDON, England, Dec. 9. Britain today stands ready, if the crisis should require the move, to make strong representations to Italy against the clamor for such French territories as Tunica and Corsica. Thus far according to authoritative circles Britain is relying on the undertakings of Premier Mussolini of Italy not to alter the situation in the Mediterranean, a promise embodied in the Italo-British friendship declaration. In spite of the tension developed between France and Italy through the Italian campaign for return of Romes former territories, Britain is resisting strong political pressure to make a formal demarche to Italy regarding Tunis and Corsica. The British government prefers to wait until it is convincingly shown that Mussolini is not fulfilling his promise to maintain the Mediterranean status quo. Premier Mussolini is aware of Britains standpoint, government sources said.
