AGUA CAL1ENTE DOING WELL Planning Three Gala Days of Racing Over Holiday. Programs to Be Bun on December 24, 5J5 and 26 Racing on Sundays Only Thereafter. SAN BRUNO, Calif., Dec. 9. Walter Marty, former general manager of the Tanforan race track and now one of the principal stockholders in the Caliente Jockey Club was a visitor at Tanforan. Marty statesthe current session at the Baja, Calif, course has exceeded expectations to date and that plans have been made to hold elaborate Sunday programs during the winter season. Caliente, which opened Thanksgiving Day with a four day session, and has since staged racing Saturdays and Sundays, will have a gala three-day period during the Christmas holidays. The sport will be conducted Saturday, December 24, Sunday, December 25 and Monday, December 26, and the many sportsmen awaiting the opening of Santa Anita may have their racing during the interim between the close of Tanforan and the opening of the Strub course. Marty reports that while about 500 horses are now stabled on the Caliente grounds more of the better calibre are being sought with a view to staging several handicaps during the Christmas period and filling a couple of like high grade races each Sunday during the Caliente season. IRONCLAD AGREEMENT. The Caliente Jockey Club has an ironclad agreement with the Mexican government and Mexican labor unions, reports Marty, and the track which was built several years I ago at the cost of hundreds of thousands of dollars will run on indefinitely. During Santa Anita, racing will be held at Caliente on Sundays only. Following the close of the Arcadia track is planned to add a. couple of days per week to the schedule and revert back to the Sunday sport during the Hollywood Park and Del Mar sessions. George W. Schilling, well known California steward who is serving as general manager and presiding steward at Caliente, will visit Tanforan next week to contact horsemen expecting to ship to the Baja, California track when the Marchbank session is concluded. Owners of horses which race for claiming prices of ,500 and over will be offered every reasonable inducement to ship across the border. . Marty stated that the daily prizes being awarded those selecting the largest number of winners each week-end has made quite a hit with Southern California fans and that the policy will be continued as long as Caliente is in operation.
